Here are the top three stories in Sandy Springs today:
- Sandy Springs Police Department is now accepting applications for its Citizens Police Academy course. The 9-week course will meet every Tuesday between 6:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. beginning on Sep. 13. The course is meant to strengthen community-department relations while offering the public the opportunity to understand the department's operations. ( The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- Georgia has broken past the 1,000 case mark for monkeypox. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 1,013 cases have been confirmed in the state - the 5th highest recorded state in the U.S. Sandy Springs residents can schedule a monkeypox vaccination through the state's new Department of Public Health portal. - Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has filed a motion to prevent the Fulton County special grand jury from collecting his testimony. The grand jury is investigating the state's 2020 General Election and possible interference. He is scheduled to testify today. The statement from the governor's office claims the motion is to simply delay the testimony until after the 2022 General Election. (WSB Atlanta)
