The intersections of Lake Forrest Drive at Cliftwood Drive and Allen Road are quickly becoming ideal destinations for children who want to get out and play. The City of Sandy Spring recently completed two playground updates in that area, both within a short walk of each other.

The newly opened Allen Road Park Playground features all new equipment and surfacing. Playground equipment includes shaded slides, swings, climbers, and crawl tubes. Peripheral ground elements are wheelchair accessible. The unitary, poured in-place rubber surfacing is designed for universal accessibility and is porous to dry quickly. The surface below the swings is engineered wood mulch. New sod and plantings were also installed nearby.

As part of an inter-governmental agreement with Fulton County Schools, the City provided upgrades to the playground at Lake Forest Elementary School. These improvements include synthetic turf, which is more durable than grass, stormwater improvements to allow areas to dry more rapidly, along with added new drainage for the playgrounds. There are similarly-planned upgrades in progress at Ison Springs Elementary School that will also include shade structures, fitness equipment and a walking trail.
