Community Meeting Planned For North Springs Renovations

The meeting will be held Jan. 23, 2018, to update the community on the project to improve the high school in Sandy Springs.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — Fulton County Schools will host a meeting in January to update the community on its renovation and addition project at North Springs Charter High School. The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 23 at Ison Springs Elementary School.

All community members are invited to attend and provide input that will guide setting the direction and vision for the North Springs Charter High School campus.

Under Capital Plan 2022, North Springs is slated to receive a major addition and renovation that includes instructional areas such as new science labs, auditorium, black box theater, art rooms, music suite, and physical education space.

Upgraded fire alarms, improved parking, traffic circulation and exterior drainage also are included in the improvements as well as new tennis courts, stadium turf, and a replacement running track surface. The $19 million project is being funded as part of the eSPLOST referendum that Fulton County voters approved in 2016.

Goals of the Jan. 23 meeting include introduction of CDH Partners as the project’s architect as well as Wonder, by Design, the project’s visioning firm. Representatives from the firms, as well as members of the school district’s Capital Improvements team, will share the steps being taken to assess the school’s current conditions, a timeline for specific stages of the project, and the process for engagement with the school community.

CDH Partners, which was selected by the school board in September, already has begun an analysis of the school’s current facility. The firm is collecting data and engaging key stakeholders about the building’s challenges so potential design solutions can be explored.

Wonder, By Design is working with CDH Partners to walk the school and further investigate and evaluate the conditions of the building. Together the firms will collect data on North Springs’ facility successes and areas of opportunity and also visit other Fulton County high schools to collect similar information.

This month, the firms began introductions and interviews of key stakeholders within the school community to become familiar with the school’s educational culture and its needs for a renewed school building. These conversations will build the framework for additional discussions occurring at the January community meeting. Over the next several months, visioning workshops will be held as well as additional meetings to engage the school community.

By spring, the team will develop recommendations and a design concept that aligns with the school’s educational and academic initiatives, which will be presented to the school district and school community for consideration.
