Concerts By The Springs Kick Off May 14

Heritage Sandy Springs will soon bring the 21st season of its popular series to music lovers across the city.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- The 21st season of Concerts by the Springs will soon return to the heart of Sandy Springs, bringing a variety of music that will provide something for everyone to enjoy.

These outdoor concerts, organized by Heritage Sandy Springs, will be held one Sunday a month between May and September. Free and open to the public, Concerts by the Springs has become a celebrated community tradition that attracts residents from all corners of the city.

Concerts are held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Heritage Green on The Sandy Springs Society Entertainment Lawn, which is located at 6110 Blue Stone Road in Sandy Springs. Celebrating its 21st year, the 2017 season features five unforgettable performances, offering something for all ages and audiences:

  • May 14 – Douglas Cameron (Big Band)
  • June 11 – GLOW (Party Hits)
  • July 9 – Kinchafoonee Cowboys (Country Classics)
  • Aug. 13 – The Rupert’s Orchestra (Multi-Genre)
  • Sept. 10 – The Tams (Beachy Soul)

"We are excited to present another diverse lineup for the Sandy Springs community, and we look forward to celebrating with our friends and neighbors all summer long," said Sarah Poland, director of marketing and community events at Heritage Sandy Springs.

Douglas Cameron will open the 2017 season on Mother’s Day. Cameron performs hits of the Big Band Era with a blend of swing and charisma like no other. His smooth vocals electrify the soul by evoking the spirit of such talents as Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett.

A talented and consummate performer, Cameron has been thrilling audiences for over 25 years with his incredible vocals and versatility, ranging from Big Band to Jazz to Blues.

June will welcome GLOW, a high-performance show band specializing in exceptional vocals, brilliant harmony, and excellent dance music. Based in Atlanta, the group has a long list of extremely satisfied clients locally and throughout the Southeast. GLOW puts on an engaging, vibrant show that will keep everyone dancing.

In July, the summer heats up with Kinchafoonee Cowboys, a classic country band whose popularity spread in Athens while several of the members attended UGA. The Cowboys are favorites around the state of Georgia and have shared billing with entertainers such as Alabama, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Widespread Panic, Blues Traveler, Dave Matthews Band, and many others.

Atlanta-based Rupert’s Orchestra will bring the club to Sandy Springs in August. This twelve-piece dance band was formed in 1987 to open Rupert’s Nightclub in Atlanta, and played to packed houses for over eight years. Rupert’s is comprised of some of the finest talent from around the nation. At the core of the group is a driving rhythm section, accented by fiery horns and an explosive Latin percussionist. The band is fronted by four unique vocalists. With a wide-ranging repertoire, the Rupert’s Orchestra performs everything from Top 40 hits to Motown and Classic Rock.

The 2017 Concerts by the Springs series will close out The Tams, who have been entertaining and thrilling audiences for over 40 years. World-renowned for their special blend of music that makes up the beach sound, The Tams entertain crowds around the globe nearly 300 days a year.

They are known for such hits as "Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy," "What Kind of Fool," and "I've Been Hurt." The Tams have had two gold records and one platinum single.

Concertgoers are encouraged to arrive early to picnic with family and friends. Gates open at 5 p.m. Blankets, lawn chairs, and coolers are welcomed; no outside tables permitted.

Additional food will be available for purchase from specialty food vendors and food trucks. Beer, wine, sodas, and water will be available for sale, with proceeds benefiting Heritage Sandy Springs. Smoking is prohibited and no pets are allowed, except for special assist animals.
