The letter of intent with Livable Buckhead and the Path Foundation allows the city to coordinate the preliminary design of the Path400 Trail extension from Loridans Drive to the I-285/S.R. 400 interchange.

Under the letter, Livable Buckhead and the Path Foundation will manage the design process with city staff.

Livable Buckhead will serve as the design project manager while Sandy Springs will provide procurement support and ongoing project management coordination throughout the design process. The city will also serve as project sponsor of the effort with the Georgia Department of Transportation and the Atlanta Regional Commission.

The city’s Bicycle, Pedestrian and Trail plan, adopted in 2014, includes a recommendation to construct a multi-use trail adjacent to S.R. 400 within existing right-of-way belonging to the GDOT.

Livable Buckhead is in the midst of designing the current Path400 plan, a 5.2-mile trail running from the southern tip of Buckhead to Loridans Drive.

The organization received a grant from the ARC in December, which provides $496,000 in federal matching dollars to help bring the Path400 trail northward.

The local match provided by Livable Buckhead is $124,000, bringing the total design budget to $620,000.
