Here are the top three stories today in Sandy Springs:
- The Fulton County Commission has approved the agreement to allow up to 700 inmates to be housed in the Atlanta City Detention Center by the sheriff. The new deal is meant to relieve overcrowding at the jail. The commission approved the deal through a 4-2 vote on Wednesday. The office will be moving inmates at a rate of about 100 each month. - The City of Sandy Springs has approved an agreement for temporary arts programming at the Abernathy Arts Center. The agreement was signed with Art Sandy Springs, Inc. for a one-time allocation of $20,000 for the programming. The classes will feature a variety of artistic subjects. (Sandy Springs)
- Furnishings, artwork, jewelry, and household/personal items from one of Sandy Springs' most famous residents will soon be up for auction in Beverly Hills and online. Martin J. Nolan, described as an "auctioneer to the stars," has announced an Oct. 21-23 auction of the estate of the late singer, songwriter, and actor Kenny Rogers. Rogers passed away in his beloved Sandy Springs home in March of 2020 at the age of 81. (Westmeath Independent)
