Crews with Sandy Springs Fire Rescue responded to the fire at Slope’s BBQ of Sandy Springs just after 7 a.m. Dec. 16, said city spokesperson Sharon Kraun said.
Kraun said personnel from Fire Station No. 2 ”noticed heavy smoke coming through the roof” of the restaurant, which is located at 200 Johnson Ferry Road.

“The fire heavily damaged the restaurant, with smoke impacting neighboring storefronts in the complex,” she added.
While no injuries were reported, the firefighting operation did force the city to close the intersection of Johnson Ferry Road and Sandy Springs Circle. The intersection has since reopened to vehicular traffic.
Sandy Springs Deputy Fire Chief Mark Duke said the fire “appears to have started somewhere around the smoker and chimney area, which extended into the attic space.”
A GoFundMe page has been created to help Slope’s in this time of crisis. Slope’s Rising From The Ashes has a goal to raise $2,500 and as of Wednesday evening, just over $100 had been donated.
According to the GoFundMe page, co-owners Glenn and Andy McDaniel are in the process of relocating what they can to the Alpharetta store, which will also serve as the temporary home for the catering portion of the business.
- Slope’s BBQ of Alpharetta is located at 5865 Gateway Drive.
Glenn McDaniel said in a message on the page that while the company has insurance, he wants to make sure his employees “get their normal Christmas pay.”
The donations will be passed along to the “would-be tip-earning employees of the Sandy Springs Slope’s location who are missing out on Christmas tips,” he added.
“And if the numbers get crazy, as I’ve seen some GoFundMe campaigns do, we’ll make sure some fire/Christmas/employee-type local metro Atlanta charities get a helping hand,” he added.
