Former Fulton Deputy Sentenced For Soliciting Kickbacks

Reginald Warren, 50, will serve one year and three months in federal prison, followed by two years of supervised release.

A former deputy with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office has been sentenced for demanding kickbacks from security officers working at the city of Atlanta’s public swimming pools.

Reginald Warren, 50, of Convington was sentenced on Friday to one year and three months in federal prison. That will be followed by supervised release for two years, according to the office of Sally Quillian Yates, the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia.

Warren pleaded guilty in May for soliciting the kickbacks from security officers, which he had scheduled to work at the pools.

“Mr. Warren’s conviction and sentence are a reflection of our commitment to make sure those who work within the law enforcement community respect and keep the public’s trust,” Yates said. “This former deputy sheriff used his position and badge to extort kickbacks from workers contracted by the city of Atlanta to make the pools safe for its citizens and, consequently, betrayed the people he promised to help.”

During the summer of 2011 while he was employed as a deputy with the sheriff’s office, Warren contracted with Atlanta to coordinate and supervise security at its pools.

Warren hired numerous security officers and scheduled them to work shifts at pools through the city. However, as soon as these officers were hired, Warren demanded payments from at least three officers in exchange for providing them with more hours, the United States Attorney’s office noted.

Warren accepted thousands of dollars in kickbacks over a three month period — all of which he pocketed himself.
