Here are the top three stories in Sandy Springs today:
- Multiple east lanes of I-285 East were blocked for several hours yesterday morning after a four-vehicle wreck left one person injured. The crash, which happened near the Roswell Road exit, happened around 6:45 a.m. and involved three cars and a tractor-trailer, said Sandy Springs Police. Authorities reported the injured person is expected to survive. (The Atlanta-Journal Constitution)
- The Georgia Health Department is currently investigating the first possible monkeypox case in the metro Atlanta area. The man has a history of international travel and has tested positive for the orthopoxvirus, the virus associated with smallpox and monkeypox. The CDC is conducting further testing to determine if the virus is in fact monkeypox. Meanwhile, the man is under observation and officials are performing contact tracing. While there is no known treatment for monkeypox, health officials say the virus is much less transmissible than the coronavirus and public risk is low. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
