Goats Dispatched To Improve Landscaping At Hammond Park
The city of Sandy Springs has deployed more than 30 goats for lawn maintenance over the next couple of days.
SANDY SPRING, GA -- The city of Sandy Springs is undertaking a unique method of trimming overgrown vegetation at one of its parks.
The city has unleashed more than 30 goats at Hammond Park where they will chomp away at the green stuff over the next couple of days.
Goats for lawn maintenance is not a new concept, but a first-time use for the city. In November 2016, the city of Roswell used 33 goats to clear out kudzu at Old Mill Park (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Or, if you have an iPhone, download the free Patch app).

"Goats are grazers and each can eat about eight pounds of weeds in a day," the city of Sandy Springs said.
The city is renting the animals from a company called Get Your Goats Rentals for $850. Sandy Springs can use the goats to clear an area with extensive, invasive vegetation efficiently at an unbeatable price, city spokesperson Sharon Kraun added.

"The goats cost less than hiring the number of humans needed to do the same weeding," she said.
