Golden Bears Photographers Bring Home the Gold... and More
Holy Innocents' photography students earn 30 honors in prestigious regional competition.
Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School Upper School photography students have captured 30 honors in the 2016 Regional Georgia Scholastic Art and Writing Awards—the most in school history for this prestigious competition.
Gold Key winners will automatically advance to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards national competition. And all Gold and Silver Key recipients will have their work exhibited at SCAD Atlanta (TBA).
“I’m so proud of these students,” said photography teacher Alice Thompson. “This level of success in the regional awards is our best ever, and it speaks to the strength of our entire visual arts program.”

Thompson described this year’s entries as more upbeat than in years past, “more teenaged joy than angst.” Subjects, however, were also deeply thought-provoking. One piece spoke to anorexia, for example, and another to gun violence.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are designed to recognize “the vision, ingenuity, and talent of our nation’s youth, and provide opportunities for creative teens to be celebrated,” according to the group’s website. Holy Innocents’ competes regional with students all over Georgia.
