Grant Funds Tutors, College Trips For Riverwood Students

The Sandy Springs Society made a $9,000 donation to the Riverwood Foundation's Advancement via Individual Determination, or AVID, program.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- The Riverwood Foundation has received a $9,000 grant from The Sandy Springs Society as part of the organization's 2016 philanthropic donations.

The grant will support the Advancement via Individual Determination, or AVID, program, a primary initiative of the Foundation.

AVID is a disciplined classroom structure designed to prepare students that are traditionally underrepresented in higher education for success in high school, college, and career. Students are selected for the program based on an application and interview process.

The grant will be used to help fund tutors, college field trips, and teacher training for the AVID program.

Founded in 2005, the Riverwood Foundation is a nonprofit whose mission is to support strategic initiatives that benefit the classroom experience for every student at Riverwood International Charter School.

In addition to the Foundation, The Sandy Springs Society continues to support Riverwood in other areas including a $6,000 grant to support the Riverwood International Charter School Performing Arts Booster Association to help purchase a microphone system and for musical instruction.
