The Byrne JAG Grant Program provides funding to support all components of the criminal justice system, ranging from multi-jurisdictional task forces to crime prevention and domestic violence programs, courts, corrections, treatment and justice information sharing initiatives.

The award marks the fifth direct award to the city from BJA. Allocation amounts are determined by a formula based equally on the population and part one crime statistics within a jurisdiction.

The Bulletproof Vest Partnership, created by the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act of 1998, is a federal initiative designed to provide a critical resource to state and local law enforcement.

The grant will allow the agency to purchase about 20 bulletproof vests. Since 2006, the city of Sandy Springs has received $92,818.68 in awards through the BVP program.

During its Sept. 15 meeting, the City Council adopted resolutions accepting both grants.
