Heritage Sandy Springs To Host "Happy Hour" Summer Concerts

Heritage Sandy Springs’ weekday summer happy hour music series will return to the city next month.

The 2015 Rhythm & Brews concert series will feature “original music deeply rooted in the region,” the organization said in a press release.

The open-air concerts will be held once a month from May through August at the Sandy Springs Society Entertainment Lawn at Heritage Green, which is at 6110 Bluestone Road.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and concerts will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is $5 for ages 21 and up, $2 for ages 13-20, free for ages 12 and under.

“Heritage Sandy Springs is excited to continue to present this happy hour concert series this May through August,” said Rebekah Henry Murphy, director of development and special events at Heritage Sandy Springs. “The series was so well received by audiences in 2013 and 2014, we knew there was a continued desire from audiences to hear fresh, original music. The series takes advantage of the best that Heritage Sandy Springs has to offer – a stunning outdoor venue where neighbors and friends can gather to relax and enjoy time together during the summer months. Rhythm & Brews not only celebrates the sounds of the region, but also presents an opportunity for audiences, young and not so young, to kick back and gather on summer evenings after work.”

The series embraces regional roots, presenting four acts in a variety of musical genres. Each month features an unforgettable performance of both up-and-coming and established artists whose origins are deeply rooted in the region.

Thursday, May 28 – von Grey: Atlanta-based indie-alternative-folk group von Grey has checked off more things on the proverbial band wish list in the past year than many bands do in a decade. National TV? Check. They’ve appeared on “Late Show with David Letterman,” “Conan,” NBC’s “Rock Center with Brian Williams,” and CNN’s “Road Warriors.” Glowing press? Check. The harmony-laced foursome has been called everything from an “Americana masterpiece” to simply “crazy-talented” by the media. Great tours? Check. The group has opened for Indigo Girls, Sarah McLachlan, Lindsey Stirling, Rusted Root, and Company of Thieves, and performed standout sets at SXSW, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, and Gathering of the Vibes Festival. Top 10 record? They can check that off too, as their 2012 self-titled EP shot into the iTunes Top 10 following their memorable “Conan” performance. And, the group of four classically trained sisters has accomplished all of this without the help of a record label and before their 20th birthdays.

Thursday, June 25 – Gareth Asher and the Earthlings: Gareth Asher and the Earthlings are an Atlanta-based country and folk-rock band formed by Georgia-born singer-songwriter and guitarist Gareth Asher in 2011. As a touring artist, Gareth is known for his soulful voice, and has shared the stage with Shawn Mullins, Glen Phillips, Emerson Hart, Angie Aparo, Corey Smith, Sister Hazel, Collective Soul and many more. Asher was named Musician of the Year at the Atlanta Chozen Awards in 2010.

Thursday, July 23 – Underhill Rose: Called “one of the most promising rootsy women artists in the Americana scene,” Underhill Rose is a female trio based in Asheville, North Carolina, featuring Molly Rose Reed, Eleanor Underhill, and Salley Williamson. Underhill Rose makes music from the heart, drawing inspiration from life-long listening to folk, old country, and rhythm and blues. Armed with a fresh sound and an extraordinary ability to blend a multitude of musical genres, impeccable harmony and soul-touching lyrics, Underhill Rose is synonymous with fresh, beautiful Americana music.

Thursday, August 13 – Cigar Store Indians: Cigar Store Indians are an American Rockabilly/Roots-Rock band that plays all original, “dirt under the fingernails,” “dance-all-night” music. Based in Crabapple, Cigar Store Indians were founded in 1991 and as consummate musicians have built a large fan base around the Atlanta area.

The Entertainment Lawn is located on the corner of Sandy Springs Place and Bluestone Road, next to City Walk. Blankets, picnics and coolers are welcomed. Pets and smoking are not allowed. Parking is available on Sandy Springs Place in designated parking lots.
