Holy Innocents' Alumna To Help With NBC Olympics Videos

Ané Wanliss '14 will work with NBCUniversal during Rio 2016.

A Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School alumna will have a hand in putting together prime time videos shown during the Summer Olympics this August.

Ané Wanliss ’14, a rising junior at Colgate University, travels to Stamford, Conn., July 29 to begin a four-week internship as an Olympics “shot selector” with NBCUniversal. She’ll work with the NBC team editing and organizing live footage from Rio 2016, which will then be viewed by the U.S. audience.

“I’ll be monitoring and logging live video from the events,” Wanliss said about her internship duties. “And I’ll also be arranging highlight packages for viewers to access online. I’m really excited to gain more video editing experience and exposure to various digital platforms.”

Students from all over the country applied for the paid NBC internships, said the 20-year-old, who had a Skype interview with officials at NBCUniversal before being hired.

“There are a lot of interns and team members—students and recent grads,” Wanliss said. “I’m sure it’ll be lively every day, and I have a feeling it will be a little bit unconventional.

“It’s still so surreal, to be honest. Wow—I’ll be part of the team that helps stream the Games for viewers back home.”

Wanliss wrote for student publications during her years at Holy Innocents’, and is majoring in Spanish and educational studies at Colgate. She earned the Dean's Award for academic excellence, given to students with a 3.30 or higher term average, for her work during freshman and sophomore years.

After her Olympics internship, Wanliss will leave for a year abroad, in Spain and Jamaica.

Rio 2016 is scheduled Aug. 5-21 in Rio de Janeiro. For more about the Summer Games, visit: https://www.rio2016.com/en
