Holy Innocents' Freshman John Gibson Honored

Two sport athlete honored for his work in youth lacrosse.

Freshman John Gibson is already turning heads with his success at varsity wrestling. He isn’t doing too badly with his lacrosse, either.

John received the Player of the Month award from APIVEO (Always Play IV Each Other) for his volunteer service in helping the younger lacrosse players in the Atlanta Youth Program this past fall. Before the current wrestling began, he volunteered on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. where he not only taught skills, but also officiated games.

Zaxby’s sponsors the award and it donates $1,000 to a charity of John’s choice. He chose Blaze Sports.

A formal presentation is in the planning stages; the goal being to have a representative from APIVEO and Zaxby’s on hand on the big day. His club lax coach, Lou Corsetti, nominated him for this award.

Currently, John is “doing his thing” on the wrestling mat – he opened his high school varsity career going 4-0 at the Woodward Duels over Thanksgiving break. Congrats to our “Mighty Mite” freshman and keep up the good work!
