Holy Innocents' Student Wins Water Essay Contest

Sadie Howard was the Fulton County winner in the Metropolitan North Georgia Water District's 2016 Water Conservation Essay Contest.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School seventh-grader Sadie Howard is the Fulton County winner in the Atlanta Metro Water District's 2016 Water Conservation Essay Contest.

Sadie’s essay discussed the stresses on Atlanta’s water supply, and addressed practical approaches to conservation for homeowners and businesses.

She joined winners from 15 other metro counties for a reception at the Capitol on Dec. 14, and received $100 in prize money.

Middle school students were asked to write a 300 to 500-word essay on the following topic: Why is water conservation important to you and our region?

The contest, organized by the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District, "challenges students to think critically about our region’s water resources and raises awareness for conservation and preservation of water quality in metro Atlanta," its website said.

Sixth, seventh and eighth graders in the city of Atlanta and Bartow, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Forsyth, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, Paulding and Rockdale counties are invited to participate in the contest.

More than 1,700 students submitted essays, and a total of 16 were honored as winners in their respective city and counties.
