Johnson Ferry Road Lane Closures Postponed

The 2 eastbound lanes between Sandy Springs Circle and Roswell Road will close Sept. 23 as a 550-ton crane is assembled in the road.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- With the Sandy Springs Festival on the horizon, a move by the city will make it a little easier to get to and from the two-day event.

The city of Sandy Springs has rescheduled lane closures along Johnson Ferry Road to start Friday, Sept. 23, a week after the original date of Friday Sept. 16.

The postponement should make it easier for motorists to also avoid other road closures that will start on Friday to accommodate the 31st annual tradition.

Once assembled, the hydraulic truck crane will be used to lift six, 100-foot trusses to support the roofing for the Performing Arts Center at City Springs.

Because of its size, the crane will arrive on the job site in sections. An assist crane will piece the sections together with the crane’s assembled dimensions equaling 65 feet by 30 feet.

Assembly must be conducted on a flat surface for safety reasons. Once assembled, the crane’s boom will expand 197 feet from the ground.
