Kroger To Close Store In Sandy Springs

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- Sandy Springs residents who regularly shop at Kroger at the corner of Roswell and Northridge roads will have to find another grocery store to get their basic necessities. That's because the company has announced plans to close its 8331 Roswell Road location at the close of business on Oct. 25.

The store at the Northridge Shopping Center has been open to customers for more than 35 years, but "has experienced declining sales and negative profit over an extended period of time and its closure is necessary to make Kroger more competitive in the market," the company said in a press release.

All associates who are based at the store will be considered for reassignment to other locations, as outlined in Kroger's collective bargaining agreement. Representatives from the company will also meet with these associates to hash out "reassignments and additional options in the coming weeks," Kroger added.

Affected customers will have four Kroger stores in the immediate area to patronize once the Roswell Road location closes:

• 227 Sandy Springs Pl NE, Sandy Springs
• 2090 Dunwoody Club Drive, Sandy Springs, GA 30350
• 570 East Crossville Road, Roswell, GA 30076
• 900 Marietta Highway, Roswell, GA 30075

The announcement of the store's closure doesn't mean Kroger will be scaling back its presence in metro Atlanta. The company said it remains "committed" to the area, as it recently opened a 115,000-square- foot store located at 800 Glenwood Avenue just east of Grant Park and an 84,397-square-foot store at 2542 Morosgo Way in the Lindbergh community of Atlanta.
