LGBT Democrats Support Milteer In Sandy Springs Election

The Georgia Stonewall Democrats are supporting Le'Dor Milteer in the race to fill the District 4 seat on the City Council.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- The Georgia Stonewall Democrats have weighed in on the only contested race in Sandy Springs. The organization, made up of members and allies of Georgia's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community, have endorsed District 4 candidate Le'Dor Milteer in the race.

The announcement was made ahead of the annual Atlanta Pride celebration held Oct. 13-15 at Piedmont Park. Stonewall Democrats Secretary Juliana Illari said Milteer's "commitment to LGBTQ equality is clear."

"She is running a diverse campaign that is leading the way on addressing issues facing all residents in Sandy Springs and has a passion for serving her community," Illari aded. "Le'Dor will be an ally to the LGBTQ community in Sandy Springs."

Milteer is facing challenger Jody Reichel in the Nov. 7 general municipal election. Both candidates are vying to replace incumbent Gabriel Sterling, who is running for Fulton County Commission chair (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. "I'm grateful for the endorsement of Georgia Stonewall Democrats and the support of many in the LGBTQ community in Sandy Springs," Milteer said. "As I campaign across the district my neighbors are expressing a clear desire for leadership that addresses tough issues and works to better our community."

Early voting in Sandy Springs and around Fulton County began Monday, Oct. 16. Early voting run will run from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Friday, Nov. 3. The county will also offer one weekend of early voting: 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29.
