Man Holding Knife Fatally Shot By Sandy Springs Police
A man has been fatally shot by Sandy Springs Police after he allegedly ran toward them holding a kitchen knife.
SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- A man has been fatally shot after he reportedly ran toward Sandy Springs Police this morning while holding a kitchen knife.

Officers were called to a report of an armed person in the 100 block of Northwood Drive around 6:15 a.m. When they arrived, the officers tried to get him to drop the knife. The man was reportedly threatening to harm himself, Sandy Springs police spokesman Sgt. Sam Worsham told AJC.com.
The man, who has not been named yet, reportedly kept advancing toward the officers, so they were forced to shoot him, officials said.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he died. No officers were harmed.
The GBI was called in to investigate the shooting, and said this is the 24th Officer Involved Shooting investigation that the GBI has been requested to investigate in 2019.
