The male with the gunshot wound, 53-year-old Kevin Gandy of Lawrenceville, was attempting to retrieve a vehicle for his niece and pointed a gun at his niece’s ex-boyfriend, Sean McDuffie, police said.
According to Sandy Springs police, the McDuffie retreated, and “also had a gun in his possession.” Multiple gunshots erupted between the two men and Gandy was shot in the chest.
McDuffie was not injured, and police later determined he shot Gandy in self-defense. Police noted both men have valid Georgia weapons carry licenses.
Gandy is in serious, but stable condition at North Fulton Hospital and has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
