Sandy Springs police previously told Patch that officers were conducting surveillance of a prostitution investigation in the 6200 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road. Police observed Barnes in the parking lot of Courtyard by Marriott at 6250 Peachtree Dunwoody Road and officers approached the suspect's vehicle.
"Officers observed Barnes bring a female under the age of 18 to the location for sexually explicit conduct," Sandy Springs police Capt. Forrest Bohannon added.
After officers approached the vehicle, Barnes started to move his vehicle and hit two SSPD cars during this encounter. Two Sandy Springs police officers discharged their weapons and one round struck Barnes, the GBI added.
Barnes was apprehended, and transported to an area hospital for treatment. Fulton jail records show that Barnes was also charged on a warrant issued by the Horry County Sheriff's Office in South Carolina. Patch has reached out to that agency to get details about the charges the accused faces there.
No officers were injured, and the GBI will continue its investigation of the shooting. Once its investigation is complete, it will turn the case over to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office for review.
