Mayor Paul Appointed To State Economic Development Board

Mayor Rusty Paul will serve on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Department of Economic Development.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — Georgia Governor Nathan Deal has appointed Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul to serve on the Georgia Department of Economic Development's Board of Directors.

Board members are appointed to represent Georgia's Congressional Districts, and Paul will be appointed to the vacant seat representing the 6th Congressional District. Board members meet on a quarterly basis.

Paul, who is serving his second term as mayor of Sandy Springs, said he was excited to serve at the request of Deal.

"I think it’s a recognition of the importance, role and impact of Sandy Springs in both the regional and state economies," he said when asked about the significance of his appointment. "We’re definitely one of the major job and economic centers in the state, and I bring some insights into what it takes to be successful in these categories."

Paul was elected to the inaugural Sandy Springs City Council in 2005 and served one term. He was recruited by Galambos to run for the office of mayor in 2013 and was elected to that seat.

At the federal level, Paul also served in the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Department during the first Bush Administration. At the state and local levels, Paul served in the Georgia State Senate, was elected to the Stone Mountain City Council, served as chair of the Georgia Republican Party and on the Republican National Committee.

He and wife, Jan Paul, have five adult children and four grandchildren.
