Michelle Obama Honors Sandy Springs School With Let's Move! Award

High Point Elementary in Sandy Springs was one of three Fulton County schools receiving the honor.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- Three elementary schools in Fulton County have been touted for their commitment to physical activity.

First Lady Michelle Obama has honored High Point Elementary School in Sandy Springs, Lake Windward Elementary School in Alpharetta and Stonewall Tell Elementary School in College Park with the Let's Move! Active Schools award.

The initiative is one of the nation’s top physical education and physical activity distinctions for K-12 schools.

"I applaud these schools for creating Active School environments that are inspiring students to be more engaged learners and ensuring that physical education and physical activity continue to be an important part of every child's educational experience,” First Lady Michelle Obama said in a statement.

The award celebrates a school’s commitment to providing students with at least 60 minutes of physical activity before, during and after school each day.

To get the award, a school must have met significant benchmarks in five areas: physical education, physical activity before and after school, physical activity during school, staff involvement, and family and community engagement.

Award winners will receive a large display banner, certificate and congratulatory letter from the First Lady.
