Mom Robbed at Gunpoint In Front of 18-Month-Old Son
The following information was taken from the Sandy Springs Police Department's Weekly Wrap Up.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- Editor’s note: the following incidents were taken from the Sandy Springs Police Department’s Weekly Wrap Up compiled by Capt. Steve Rose, which contains some — not all — of the incidents that occurred Oct. 8-12:
Robbery
- 6800 block of Roswell Road, 30328, 10/9: A man said that just after 9 p.m. he was standing next to his pickup truck when another man came up from behind and grabbed him, demanding his property by saying “Give me what you’ve got.” The victim said he turned and kicked the man in the chest, prompting the suspect to run away. The suspect was an unknown male who wore black hoodie, jeans and white shoes.
- 201 Northwood Drive, 30342, 10/9: The victim said just after midnight, she was returning from being out, to her apartment with her 18-month-old son. She said she called her boyfriend at the apartment to see if all was clear since it was late at night. He said it was. She exited and walked towards the apartment at which time she was confronted from behind by a tall black male who demanded her chain. The man was armed. He snatched her chain and the chain on the child’s neck. He grabbed her purse, then fled. He is described as a black male, 20 to 30 years of age, 6’1” and about 200 pounds. He was wearing a black baseball hat, black jacket and jeans.

- 795 Hammond Drive, 30328, 10/8: Furniture was taken from a storage area at the Park Towers Condos.
- 300 block of Huntcliff Village Ct., 30350, 10/8: Sometime between 10 am and 3 pm someone entered the apartment and took several items. A PlayStation video game system and LG-80-inch TV were gone. There had been some riff with a roommate who recently left.
- 700 block of Abernathy Road, 30328, 10/11: A Kawasaki ATV was stolen from a job site.
- 4900 block of Lake Forrest Drive, 30328, 10/11 (Garage): The victim said he found his garage door open and realized he forgot to close it the night before. Nothing was taken.
- 4000 block E. Conway Drive, 30342, 10/12 (Residence under construction): Kitchen appliances were taken. 1100 block of Hope Road 30350 10/12 Vacant home under renovation-Items taken were a paint sprayer, two air compressors, a circular saw, nail gun, and sawzall.
Thefts
- 5800 block of Glenridge Drive, 30328, 10/8: A woman reported that while at her office, she placed her purse in her office and left for a short time. When she returned, $800 cash and a credit card were missing. All of the other employees had access to the office.
- 6900 block of Roswell Road, 30328, 10/8: Stolen car, 2000 Toyota Celica, gray.
- 227 Sandy Springs Place, 30328, 10/8 (Kroger): A 93-year-old man reported that while he was shopping on the Halloween aisle, another man ahead of him dropped a bag of candy. He reached down and picked it up and when doing so, bumped into the victim, almost knocking him down. The victim said he felt something touch him on his back pocket. The man immediately left the area and the victim then saw a second man leaving the aisle. He then realized his wallet had been picked from his back pocket. The victim then saw a third person who appeared to be signaling one of the other men. A short time late, two unauthorized purchases of $400 and $700 were made at a nearby Target store.
- 8725 Roswell Road, 30350, 10/10: Witnesses said that they were outside, next to a Starbucks. The victim was outside of the Starbucks smoking a cigarette, but had left her laptop on one of the outside tables because she intended to continue studying. They watched a man go into the Starbucks and walk around the store but not order a fancy something-chino. The man walked back outside and prepared to get into an occupied car, driven by suspect two, when he reached across the railing and snatched the laptop. One witness ran to the car and grabbed the laptop. The suspect yelled to the driver, “Just go!” and then dropped the laptop, jumped in the car and the car sped off. The victim meanwhile, was banging on the window of the car, screaming at the driver. The car left south on Roswell Road. The laptop apparently survived the encounter with no damage. Starbucks staff said they had interior camera but they were not functioning. Capt. Steve Rose says: You know the moral of the story? Other than smoking is bad for you, you can’t leave things unattended. Don’t assume.
- 6800 block Roswell Road, 30328, 10/12: Stolen car, 2008 Honda Accord, black.
- 1600 block of Summit Springs Drive, 30350, 10/12: The resident said her medication was taken from her bedroom. The bug man was there earlier.
- 500 block of Wedgewood Way, 30350, 10/12: the resident said her Chanel Chance Perfume, valued at $150, was stolen from the upstairs bathroom. She said the maid service was there on the same day she noticed it missing. The maid service employees were contacted by the officer and told him they had no knowledge of the incident.
- 5500 block Glenridge Drive, 30342, 10/12: A man said he placed an envelope with $1005 for rent, in the mail slot of the leasing office to his apartments. Someone intercepted it and the office said they did not receive it. Rose: Thefts of rent money and mail slots are not uncommon. We’ve seen where coat hangers with sticky stuff on the ends have been used to retrieve the envelopes from the floor inside the office. Other methods have been used as well. With that much at stake, make it part of your monthly schedule to go and hand that check off personally.

- 700 block of Glenridge Close, 30328, 10/11: Unlocked house/vehicle keys taken
- 5600 block of PDR (2 vehicles), 30342, 10/11: Laptop (MacBook) and $200 cash; several young black males seen fleeing the area.
- 7000 Central Pkwy, 30328, 10/11: Victim saw and surprised a white male and black male while they were trying to steal from her car.
Assault
- 8805 Dunwoody Place, 30350, 10/11: A 29-year-old man was shot in the leg, while walking through a wooded trail between two apartment complexes off Dunwoody Place. The man told police he was walking through the trail.
Fraud
- A man reported that he took Uber to Buckhead and got “pretty drunk.” He said the next day he was
unclear on the previous night’s events. He discovered that while or after he withdrew some money from the ATM, someone stole his card and withdrew $2,000. - A woman reported that she found fraudulent addresses on her credit report. The addresses are in
Atlanta, Hopewell, NY, and Warrenton, VA. She said her ex is on the short list of suspects. - A man on Huntcliff Village Drive said he saw charges on his Bank of America account and found that
$200 had been transferred to his roommate and $49 used to pay an LA Fitness account, also his roommate’s. He since found another for $51. - A 36-year-old man reported some unauthorized activity on his bank account, namely, $3,000 withdrawal made in China via Western Union.
- A 61-year-old woman located a condo for rent and and made arrangements to see and meet the
owner. The two agreed to rent the condo so she paid him deposit money and first month’s rent totaling $2,746. Later, she found out that the man was not the owner and had scammed her for the money. Rose: Do your homework. Before you rent from an individual, you can access property information
and determine who the owner is by going to the tax assessor’s office or contacting the office online.
Other Things
- A woman called police and reported that she was attending a black tie event when her ex-husband
showed up in violation of a temporary protection order. The ex was escorted from the event prior to the arrival of the police.
Arrests
- 6700 block of Hunters Trace, 30328, 10/8: Officers responded to a suspicious-person complaint just after 1 a.m. He observed five black males walking through the neighborhood, from Lisa Lane towards Mt. Vernon Hwy. Each of the five said they had identification but on this night, all five had forgotten to bring them. They said they were visiting a female friend of one of the five but could not tell them where she lived or who she was. The ID scanner could not identify but one of the subjects. All were under the age of 18 so the officers took them to MARTA after notifying their parents they were doing so. One of the officers returned to the neighborhood and checked where the five had been. He found two cars that had broken into. They returned to the MARTA Station and located the five who they arrested for loitering and prowling, as it was entirely possible that they were there for unlawful purposes. Some of the five were juveniles and were turned over to parents.
- Sandy Springs Circle and Allen Road, 30328, 10/9: A patrol officer spotted a car backed into a construction area where they are building condos. The car was unoccupied yet the hood was warm. The officer figured the man would return so he sat for more than two hours, waiting for the car to leave. Finally it did, and he pulled it over. The man had a small PVC pipe and screws that matched what was on the job site. The 42-year-old man from Jonesboro was arrested for prowling and loitering.
- 5570 Roswell Road, 30342, 10/11: Target employees observed a woman steal items by placing them in her purse and scattering the original packaging all around the store. She was detained after trying to leave without paying. The woman had two young kids with her, ages 7 and 12, and she contacted an older child to come take the younger children. She was then taken to jail. The value of the beauty items totaled $43.
