Mother's Day Poem Speaks to Universal Love
Happy Mothers Day to Sandy Springs moms. If a mother's love is universal, a child's love for her is too.

To borrow from what someone sweetly said in a note, "Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers you love."
There is something undeniably sacred about a mother’s love. She nurtures, she protects, she fights our battles, and she listens like no other on earth.

One of my mother’s favorite poems was “A Mother’s Love,” by Helen Steiner Rice. A part of it reads:
“… It is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking, And it never fails or falters even though the heart is breaking...It believes beyond believing when the world around condemns, And it glows with all the beauty of the rarest, brightest gems…”

How true.
If a mother’s love is universal, her child’s love for her is too. With that in mind, below is a poem dedicated to all Moms today, and the hearts of all children. My brother, John Russell Murchison penned it in 1988.
Reflections to My Mom: I Am First Born, The Eldest of Three
From your womb my life came,
I brought you some joy on occasion some pain.
From you and dad my foot took hold,
From your teachings, I began to mold.
During my youth I’d spread my wings,
I would test my life but not venture far.
When bruising my soul my heart I’d bring,
You were always there, my shining star.
My journey continuous as time came to be,
To go out and seek my destiny,
Remembering the virtues you instilled in me,
Furthering my knowledge was rough, but I paid my fee.
And when the time came, erect I stood.
In the back of your mind you knew I would.
So I plotted my course and laid my path,
I reaped what you sowed, took hold of my staff.
Happy you are proud, glad dad got to see
I turned out to what you’d hope I’d be.
I have now branched out, other life I have touched
Keeping you in mind and how I love you so much.
These are the words of your son,
From you he is a part,
I think you should know,
I have never loved you with anything less than my heart.
