Mount Vernon Presbyterian Names New Athletic Director, Football Coach
Head of School Dr. Brett Jacobsen tapped Brad Dehem to serve as athletic director and Wayne Dabbs as head varsity football coach.
Taking Mount Vernon Presbyterian’s GHSA Class A athletic program to new heights, the school made two pivotal hires this week.
Head of School Dr. Brett Jacobsen announced two key athletic appointments: Brad Dehem as the athletic director and Wayne Dabbs as the head varsity football coach.
“I cannot express how grateful I am and overwhelmed I feel by the progress of the School,“ said Dr. Jacobsen. “The investment in finding the highest performing leaders dedicated to Mount Vernon students remains a high priority. Looking toward the future, an ambitious and aggressive vision requires the collaboration and heavy lifting of a community. Thank you for partnering with us to build something exceptional.”

Dehem currently leads the Brookstone School in Columbus as athletic director, head football coach and Upper School math teacher. Prior to Brookstone, Dehem served the Wesleyan School in Norcross as assistant head football coach and offensive coordinator, head boys and girls tennis coach and math lab coordinator. During his professional career, Dehem has been a part of several GHSA state championship teams in football and tennis and was named coach of the year three times.
Dehem received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree in sports management from Jacksonville State University. Dehem visited the Mount Vernon Presbyterian campus with one of his young children to meet some of the teachers and to see classroom learning in the Lower School.

“I am incredibly excited about the opportunity to be the athletic director at MVPS and to have my family involved in such a great community,” he added. “I look forward to the athletic department serving the needs of our coaches and students to help them be the very best that they can be. I truly can’t wait to get started.”
Son of a football coach, Dabbs played high school football, basketball, baseball, ran track and played college football at the University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky.
Professionally, Coach Dabbs has worked in various capacities in college and high school football programs. Currently, he is serving The Westminster Schools of Atlanta as the offensive line coach. Prior to Westminster, he was the head football coach at Tabernacle Christian High School in Alabama where not only did his team win two state championships, he was named coach of the year.
Earlier this week, Middle and Upper School football players met with Dabbs and listened as he shared words with the audience at the Mustang Athletic Center.
“As passionate as I am about being your head football coach, I’m even more passionate about building relationships with you and investing in your life,” he stated. “I want to find out what your goals are and I want to do what I can to help you reach your goals.”
