Movies By Moonlight Starts Friday With 'How To Train Your Dragon'
This is the 15th year Leadership Sandy Springs has hosted its signature community event, described as the "best block party in town."
SANDY SPRINGS, GA — Grab a lawn chair, pack a picnic or don your favorite character costume for the kick off of Leadership Sandy Springs free outdoor Movies by Moonlight (MBM) series opening with "How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World" on Friday, Aug. 9 on the Green at City Springs.
This is the 15th year LSS has hosted its signature community event, described as the “best block party in town” along with the nostalgia of a drive-in movie. "How to Train your Dragon" is the first of three family-friendly feature films that will be shown on a 30-foot inflatable screen near the outdoor stage at City Springs. Friday, Aug. 23 will be "Spider-Man: into the Spider-Verse" and Friday, Sept. 6 will be "Captain Marvel."
“Adding to the fun of watching a movie under the stars are all the pre-movie activities and entertainment Leadership Sandy Springs has planned,” said event co-chair Stephanie Graham. “For 'How to Train Your Dragon,' there will be face painting, a balloon artist, touch-a-truck fire truck, Sandy Springs Parks and Recreation Department games, and on stage, performances by the Los Ninos Dancers and, in keeping with the dragon theme, flame throw.”

At every movie the children’s splash pad, food trucks, and concessions including LSS’ popular snow-cones and cotton candy will be available and all children and adults in costume will be invited to parade across the stage before the movie begins.
For "Spider Man," the Dunwoody Nature Center will be offering fun activities for kids to learn more about spiders and other arachnids, the Sandy Springs gymnasts are scheduled to perform on stage and a laser Spiderman is expected to be seen. For "Captain Marvel," the onstage entertainment includes both a performance by the North Georgia School of Ballet and Sandy Springs Music. At all three movies, costumed characters from Cosplay of America will be walking around for photos and fun selfies.

“We are so excited about this year’s line-up and all that is planned. Movies by Moonlight continues to get better every year and we are so appreciative of our generous sponsors. We couldn’t do this without their support,” said Jan Paul, Executive Director of Leadership Sandy Springs.
LSS, the civic organization known for developing leaders and connecting community to foster a vibrant Sandy Springs and Central Perimeter area, began planning for Movies by Moonlight months ago.
“We hope everyone, ‘the young and the young at heart’ will come out to enjoy the show,” added event co-chair, Lisa Thompson. “We look forward to seeing you at the movies.”
Parking will be available in the garage and in lots and spaces around City Springs located at 1 Galambos Way (corner of Roswell Rd. and Mt Vernon), with additional parking at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church Activity Center.
