Here's the latest from the montessori school in Sandy Springs.
SPRINGMONT HOSTS ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL NIGHT
Dec. 6, 2014 — Springmont celebrated the cultures of the world and school diversity by holding its annual International Night on Saturday, December 6, 2014. Through music and dance, students share with the audience the unique characteristics of various cultures. After the performances, participants sample dishes from around the world, which are prepared by Springmont families. These dishes represent a country or culture of their choice—this is one of the biggest potluck dinners around! Springmont’s student body has a 43 percent diversity rate, and students come from countries on all continents with the exception of Antarctica. There are more than a dozen languages spoken and all major world religions are represented on campus. The faculty is equally diverse and hails from a variety of places such as Turkey, Brazil, India, Sri Lanka, Columbia, Venezuela and Spain and speaks those native languages.

Dec. 17, 2014 — From primary to middle school students, Springmont is giving back to our community and beyond. Rosanne and Norma’s Primary classes and their parents made blankets for the homeless and Cecilia and Cara’s class and their parents made blankets for the humane society. Chris’ Elementary students chose to write to injured soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. Parents of students in Chris’ class were so moved by this project that they even wrote letters to the soldiers.
During the week of Dec. 15, middle schools students participated in a variety of events. They cleaned Springmont’s Adopt-A-Mile on Roswell Road near the Fountain Oaks Kroger, they delivered sandwiches to Must Ministries and treats to the Sandy Springs Police and Fire Departments, they worked on campus with Upper Elementary and Primary students and they cleaned Springmont’s goat barn. They also went off campus to the Museum of Design Atlanta to investigate 3D printer technology and to the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory to enjoy objects from ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome and the Near East.

SPRINGMONT HOSTS YALE’S JUST ADD WATER
Jan. 9 — Just Add Water (JAW), an improvisational comedy troupe from Yale University, visited Springmont’s Middle School students on January 6th. JAW performs long-form, short-form and musical improv. Together with Springmont’s students, they made up short scenes, longer multi-scene stories and songs completely on the spot. There was no planning ahead—they relied solely on the interaction with the students, and used their suggestions for inspiration, and they created the rest on the fly.
Comprised of some of Yale’s funniest and most daring students, JAW performs on campus and off campus, bringing laughter to fellow students and the world at large.
