Nonprofit Awards Police K9 With Ballistic Vest

Another K9 with the Sandy Springs Police Department now has a new layer of protection while working the streets.

K9 Seven has been awarded a ballistic vest from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc, Sandy Springs police said on its Facebook page.

The award was made possible with the help of Scott Burgett, who provided $950 to purchase the vest.

The vest will be embroidered with, “This gift of protection provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.” Officer Mike Stark and K9 Seven have worked together as a team with Sandy Springs police since September 2014. The agency has a total of four K9s assigned to its Traffic Unit.

It’s the second award the organization has made to Sandy Springs police in as many months. In April, Vested Interest awarded K9 Django with a bulletproof vest.

Established in 2009, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a Massachusetts-based charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States.

Each vest costs $950 and has a five-year warranty.

Through private and corporate sponsorships, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 1,349 law enforcement dogs in 49 states with protective vests at a cost of over $1.2 million dollars.
