North Springs High School Wins Prom Safety Contest
The students at the Sandy Springs school created a social media campaign promoting prom safety.
SANDY SPRINGS, GA — A social media campaign promoting safe choices on prom night led to North Springs Charter High School winning Fulton County's Prom Safety contest.
The students on Thursday were presented with a $1,500 check from AAA, Mothers Against Drunk Driving and Fulton County Youth Commissioner Coordinator Reginald Crossley.
Five students submitted winning poster entries created in Cam Lupiani’s advanced graphics class. The students urged their peers to remain sober, not to drive intoxicated and to refrain from texting. One graphic used to warn their peers said, “476 kids never made it to prom.”

North Springs prom participants will enjoy a performance from "The Voice" actor and singer, Nick Hagelin, who gave a surprise performance at the check presentation. The school's prom, set for April 20 at The Foundry at Puritan Mills in Atlanta, will also include a celebrity DJ and a live radio broadcast.

"We're so proud of our students and want everyone going to prom tonight to have fun and be safe," said Principal Scott Hanson. "It's exciting to have won and we thank the Fulton County Youth Commission and all the sponsors involved."
All of the schools that participated in the Prom Safety Campaign competition received a prom safety kit worth $250. The annual campaign encouraged schools to create a prom safety plan to keep students safe as they enjoy their celebrations.
Participating schools were required to submit entries focusing on preventing driving under the influence, alcohol consumption, drug use, texting while driving, peer pressure, bullying, and violence. The competition was open to all senior classes in Atlanta and Fulton County public, private and charter schools.
