The No. 1 nationally ranked 4 x 400 relay team of senior Dory Perkins and juniors Tyra Williams, Micaiah Ransby and Molly Jackson broke the State meet record, placing first with a time of 3:44.42 and first in the 4 x100 with a time of 47.07 seconds.
In individual events Micaiah Ransby placed first in the 400 and second in the 200; Molly Jackson placed first in the 800, and Jayda Drake Howard placed fifth in the 300 hurdles. In April, at the Region championships, the 4 x 400 relay broke Georgia track history, clocking the fastest time ever recorded in Georgia for that event.
The Spartans are coached by PE department chair and long-time track coach Patty Carroll and former Olympic gold medalist Antonio McKay.
McKay, a Georgia Tech graduate, is a world record holder, and member of the Track and Field Hall of Fame. The girls’ track last brought home the State title in 2005.
