North Springs Inducts 63 Students Into National Honor Society

From North Springs Charter HS: North Springs Charter High School is pleased to announce the recent induction of 63 new members into the National Honor Society (NHS). Founded in 1929, NHS is the nation’s oldest, largest, and most prestigious secondary school honor society - open to high school juniors and seniors only.

“Congratulations, this is very special,” advisor Gwen Kaminsky told the inductees. “Many of you are being inducted into an honor society that your parents may have also been members of. NHS has a long tradition of excellence and we’re very proud of your accomplishments.”

In what has become a North Springs tradition, the new members learned they had been selected when they were “tapped” or surprised by a current NHS member in their 4th period class, given a white balloon and told to follow.

“Tapping was fun, it’s a nice way to let the students know. They are confused at first and then really excited,” shared senior Sofi Taher, “especially when they follow us into the media center to celebrate.”
The following week, on October 12, the students were formally inducted into membership, having achieved a 94 grade point average or higher and demonstrated the four pillars of NHS membership – scholarship, service, leadership and character.
