North Springs Names Valedictorian, Salutatorian For the Class of 2015
Madhu Baskaran, 18, is first in class while Lucas Capps, 18, is second, respectively.

North Springs Charter High School in Sandy Springs has announced that Madhu Baskaran, 18, will serve as the school’s valedictorian and Lucas Capps, 18, is the school’s salutatorian.

Both students will represent the class of 2015.
Madhu, the daughter of Revathy Baskaran and Baskaran Kuppusamy of Johns Creek, is a math/science magnet student. She’s a member of National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and has been active in HOSA, the nation’s largest student organization for future health care professionals, since her freshman year.

She has served the school’s HOSA chapter, with over 160 members, as president her senior and junior years and secretary her sophomore year.
She has competed in the HOSA State Leadership Conference for four years, winning state first place in medical assisting for three years, 9th in the nation her freshman year, and Top 20 in the nation her sophomore year. As this year’s Georgia first place winner she will again represent North Springs at the national competition this summer. Her junior year she was unable to compete at nationals because she attended the 2014 Governor’s Honors Program in biology.
Baskaran is also a two year student ambassador, current secretary of the student body, president of UNICEF, treasurer of Beta Club and a state science fair competitor. She will graduate as an AP Scholar with Distinction after taking 13 Advanced Placement exams.
She will attend the Georgia Institute of Technology majoring in biomedical engineering; she intends to pursue a medical degree with hopes of becoming a surgeon.
Lucas is the son of Leslie and Robert Capps of Alpharetta. Capps, a math and science magnet student, is a National Merit Finalist and National Merit scholarship recipient, an AP Scholar of Distinction and four year pitcher on the baseball team, the last three on varsity.
Capps is also a member of National Honor Society, FBLA- Future Business Leaders of America, and a former member of Mock Trial, Interact, and Junior Achievement (JA) Fellows.
He will be attending the University of Alabama, Huntsville and has received the UAH Platinum Award for Academic Distinction, a full scholarship to pursue a five year master’s degree program in applied physics.
He also plans to play baseball at UAH and participate in the school’s co-op program with NASA and/or Boeing in Huntsville.
