North Springs Students to Host First-Ever Hackathon

The first ever hackathon will take place on Apr. 28.

From Spartan Club: North Springs Computer Science and Women in Technology Clubs joined forces earlier this year to begin planning their first ever hackathon they’ve named SPARTANHACKS, to be held at ROAM in at Perimeter Center from 8pm Friday April 27 to 5pm Saturday April 28.

Coordinating the effort are seniors Ayo Bolaji, a Questbridge scholarship recipient who is headed to Northwestern as a computer engineering major, Ohad Rau who will be attending Georgia Tech also majoring in computer science, and juniors Akasha Hayden who was just accepted into the 2018 MIT Online Science, Technology, and Engineering Community known as MOSTEC, and Elaine Wen the 2017 Women in Technology Girl of the Year Award winner. “We really want to see this happen before we graduate,” agreed both Bolaji and Rau, although they admit the undertaking has been more involved than they anticipated. “It has been a goal of our club for the past year,” said Bolaji “and we’re excited to make a difference and give students interested in technology and computer science this experience.”
“A Hackathon is when people get together to collaborate on tech related projects for fun and the chance to work with others and get new ideas and perspectives,” explained Hayden. “SPARTANHACKS specifically is focused on students making a program, video game or website.” “We’re offering prizes to the most creative teams or individuals. The participants can come up with their own ideas or we will have a theme to inspire project ideas. Kids will also get to give, or hear what we’re calling Lightening Talks – to share their ideas with others,” she added.

“We’re really excited about it and being able to have it off-campus at a cool, tech-oriented work space is even better,” she said. The SPARTANHACKS Hackathon will be held at ROAM, Perimeter Center, 1151 Hammond Dr. NE, Atlanta, 30346. Interested students must submit an application, make an online payment of $20 and complete the required forms no later than Tuesday, April 24. For more information email
