Amelia was originally due on Christmas Day. However, when Veronica didn’t go into labor on her own, her doctor decided to induce on the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 31. By 11 p.m., labor was not progressing as hoped, so a cesarean section was performed.
Landaverde said that never in her wildest dreams did she imagine to have the first baby of the New Year and all of the media attention around it.

“It feels weird; it’s different,” she added. “I thought she would come earlier.”
“When they told us that we were going back to get a c-section... I looked up at the clock and it was about 11:30 and I thought it was going to be close, but I didn’t know it’d be that close,” said Austin.
When asked how it feels to be a new mom and have her beautiful new baby, Landaverde said “it’s probably one of the best feelings.”
“It’s definitely my number one New Year’s,” she added.
