UPDATE: GBI Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting
A 26-year-old man brandishing a handgun was shot three times by Sandy Springs officers during a confrontation.

The Sandy Springs Police Department has turned over investigation into an officer involved shooting to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
GBI spokesperson Sherry Lang said the state agency is investigating the incident, which involves two officers and a sergeant with the police force. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30 at 330 Winding River Drive.

Lang said initial reports indicate officers responded to a 911 call of a domestic dispute between a mother and her son.
When officers arrived onto the scene, they were confronted by Abayomi Royalston, 26, “who brandished a handgun,” Lang added.

“The sergeant and one of the officers fired multiple shots at Royalston, striking him three times,” she said.
Royalston was transported to North Fulton Hospital in Roswell to be treated for his injuries. None of the officers were injured during the incident.
Lang added the GBI will conduct a “thorough investigation” to determine what happened during the incident.
Once the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s office for review.
