Officer Rescues Deer Trapped In Tree Swing Rope

Larry Jacobs came to the aid of the deer early Sunday morning in Sandy Springs.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- A Sandy Springs police officer recently came to the aid of a deer that became entangled in a piece of rope behind an apartment unit.

Officer Larry Jacobs responded to a call the morning of Sunday, Oct. 9 at an apartment unit at 5246 Vernon Springs Trail.

Jacobs was told the deer was caught in a tree swing in the back yard of the residence. One he arrived on the scene, he was able to see one of the deer's antlers caught in the rope of the tree swing.

"It was obvious the deer would not be able to free itself," Jacobs wrote in his report.

So, the officer did what any public servant would do. He approached the tree, grabbed the rope and used a knife to cut the rope.

However, the deer began to panic and the officer's hand got caught between the rope and the tree. Jacobs was eventually able to free his hand as well as the deer.

The deer ran off and Jacobs returned to duty. As the day progressed, the officer noted he suffered a slight injury to his hand, "but said he was happy to have helped the animal free itself," Capt. Steve Rose recounted in his latest Weekly Wrap-Up of incidents in the city.
