PETA Offers Reward For Dog Found in Dumpster

A one-year-old Staffordshire terrier mix was discovered Friday afternoon behind Goodwill on Roswell Road.

A national organization tasked with protecting animals is offering a reward for information that would help track down the person who allegedly tossed a dog into a dumpster.

PETA is offering $2,500 “for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime,” the organization said on Wednesday.

“Throwing away a defenseless dog like a piece of garbage demonstrates a blatant disregard for others’ suffering,” said PETA Senior Director Martin Mersereau. “PETA is urging anyone with any information to come forward immediately, before someone else gets hurt.”

Fulton County Animal Services Public Relations Director Karen Hirsch said an anonymous caller phoned the agency late last Friday and told the agency she “had seen a dog being thrown into a dumpster” behind Goodwill on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs.

An animal control officer went out and discovered the dog in the dumpster next to his dog bed, Hirsch added.

“We named the dog Broham and are looking for witnesses who will come forward and tell us what happened,“ she stated.

Broham, a tan, one-year-old Staffordshire terrier mix, weighs 49 pounds and is “heart worm negative,” according to Hirsch. She noted the dog is available for adoption, and more information can be obtained by emailing adoptions@fultonanimalservices.com.

Anyone with information on the incident is also asked to call Fulton County Animal Services at 404-613-0358.
