As residents brainstorm a new workout routine for 2015, women in Sandy Springs now have easy access to the acclaimed full body workout that has taken the women’s world of group fitness by storm.
Pink Barre studios in both City Walk in Sandy Springs and Tuxedo Center in Buckhead opened in June, and the response was immediate thanks to Barre’s buzz for producing toned, balanced, sculpted and leaner bodies.

Pink Barre City Walk at 230 Hammond Drive Suite 388 has the distinction of being Sandy Spring’s first standalone barre boutique to offer the popular ballet-inspired barre classes following the company’s first location in February 2014 at Emory Point serving Decatur, Druid Hills and Virginia Highlands.
Inspired by the classic barre from the world of ballet, barre fitness incorporates pilates, ballet, body work, yoga, training and strengthening with a bevy of props for a total body workout. Barre works every muscle group to fatigue and then follows each section with a targeted stretching segment to produce strong, balanced and lean bodies.

The fitness concept has a loyal and diverse fan base of celebrities, athletes, dancers and both older and young enthusiasts, and the presence of Barre boutiques has grown in Atlanta as word spreads about the energizing fitness routine that produces toned, balanced muscles without breaking a sweat.
For Pink Barre owners Maureen Chatelain and Tara Joiner, the two friends and avid runners started taking Barre classes four years ago when their idea for a locally-owned barre boutique with several additional elements evolved.
“We wanted to offer more than just a place to work out,” said Chatelain. “Pink Barre does that by being more personal. We provide a welcoming place of community for women to support each other in their fitness and life endeavors.”
And with four metro Atlanta locations, Pink Barre is catching up quickly to its national counterparts by providing community with safe, upbeat programming for all ages.
On any given day, clientele ranges widely from athletes returning from injury, young mothers eager to tone to women in their 60’s and ‘70s that appreciate the Pink Barre’s “easy on the joints, hard on the muscle” work out. Yoga bands, exercise balls and micro movements replicate the precise low-impact movements of physical therapy as the highly trained instructors are hands on in emphasizing form, posture and alignment.
Pink Barre co-founder and Buckhead/Decatur studio owner Tara Joiner, a former physical therapist, mother of three and marathon runner, designed the classes to create an efficient core workout without killing the lower back and taxing the joints.
“By focusing on specific muscle group of the core, arms, legs, and seat area, we produce dramatic results with our barre workout over time,” said Joiner. “We often tell clients small movements can produce the biggest results, and our clients are noticing the results in the first month of taking our classes.”
We’re signing up women frustrated with the results of their current workout who are now seeing immediate results with more balanced muscle tone and flexibility and less chronic impact on their joints,” Chatelain added. “And for some, this is just a fun way to rekindle your inner ballerina. We set ourselves apart from the national barre fitness chains by offering a carefully crafted segment called Barre Connect which adds a high energy cardio twist to traditional barre workout. It increases blood flow and flushes out lactic acid so you experience less soreness the next day.”
As for pink, Pink Barre gets personal year round with their community outreach and mission. In October, the Pink Barre donated funds to Turning Point for every client who wore pink to class on Wednesdays.
In December, they hosted a food drive to support the Community Assistance Center of Sandy Springs. Other programs include a monthly Beaus at the Barre to introduce husbands, boyfriends and significant others to the newest fitness craze. In addition, first-time attendees are eligible for a discounted unlimited month long pass, and after that, pricing varies based on the number of classes a student would like to take.
