Robb Pitts edged out fellow challenger Keisha Waites to become the next Fulton County Commission chairman.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- A familiar face around Fulton County will be returning to elected office to serve as chairman of the County Commission. Robb Pitts has won the Dec. 5 runoff for the seat, defeating challenger Keisha Waites in the race to succeed John Eaves.

Unofficial results from the Georgia Secretary of State's website show Pitts, a Democrat, edged out his fellow Democratic challenger with 55 percent, or 49,063 votes. Waites received 45 percent, or 40,629 votes in the race, according to the state's website.

The Fulton County Commission chair became vacant when John Eaves resigned to run for Atlanta mayor.
