Assault

  • Two pizza employees got into an argument. One threatened to get his gun in 30 minutes or less.

Other things

  • A 50-year-old man reported that he owns property (home) in Marietta that he leases. He notified the tenant that the lease was up and to e-mail him if he wanted to renew. The man said he did initially, but did not contact the owner afterwards. The owner assumed he did not want to renew. The owner went about the business of showing the home to new prospects to which the current resident has now made threats to shoot anyone coming over — specifically with a scoped rifle.

  • A man reported that he received a string of text messages from a 678 area code number offering him oral sex and a photo of a penis.

Fraud

  • Check forgery: 5800 block of Roswell Road, 30328, 3/4: A woman made a fraudulent deposit of just under $2,000 into an account, then withdrew funds from it before the bank could determine the validity of the check.
  • On March 4, a man reported someone used his Chase Bank credit card to make a $55 Domino’s Pizza purchase in Douglasville.
  • A 36-year-old man said someone used his personal information to open a T-Mobile account in Alabama.
  • A 64-year old man said someone used his personal information to apply for and receive/use a credit card in his name. The card had a $6,400 balance.
  • An 18-year-old man said he bought an Xbox game system through an app called Offerup.com. He sent the money via MoneyGram but had not included the reference number. The transaction is not supposed to allow the receiver to receive the funds without it. However, in this case, the seller did receive the money (not listed) and of course did not send the Xbox.
  • A 52-year-old woman who owns a business said she was called by someone who said they were with Georgia Power collections regarding a $491 outstanding balance and if the matter was not paid immediately, the power would be turned off. Furthermore, she was to go to Office Depot, specifically at 1155 Mt. Vernon Highway, and get a Reloadit card for the $491 and provide the code to the collector before 6 p.m. She did so. She later found out, by calling Georgia Power, that she had paid her bill on time and they don’t collect past due accounts via Reloadit cards. Rose: if you get one of these calls, here’s what you need to remember: 1) Confirm your last payment and contact that utility company before you commit to anything. Even if it is a legit collection, they don’t do business like that. You will have time to confirm things. 2) Know that if the caller says anything about a pre-paid card then it’s a scam. 3) Most utility companies will work with you so pick up the phone and call them to verify this information.
  • On March 10, a 34-year-old man said that he used the website Roommate.com to find a place to live in Atlanta. He contacted a woman named Cynthia regarding a furnished apartment. She convinced him to give her his Wells Fargo bank card number for an initial payment of $25. Afterwards, she moved money from his bank account to a private credit card racking up over $4,000 in purchases. She changed the address on the account to an Atlanta address and new phone number.

Arrests

  • March 4: traffic stop, Roswell Road in the 6300 block: Cop smelled weed, man charged with same, including a bong and grinder in his backpack.
  • 500 block of Northridge Road, 30350, 3/4: Around 10 p.m. officers were called to an apartment area on persons smoking marijuana outside the building. The call was upgraded to a fight. The officers arrived and during that time found little evidence of the marijuana, but discovered one of the individuals was wanted in DeKalb County for fraud so they hooked him up and off he went.
  • Cops arrested a man at Glenlake Parkway and Abernathy Road after an accident. One of the drivers said he didn’t have his license on him because he was arrested earlier in the day for driving with a suspended license.
  • On March 5, following an accident on GA-400, one of the drivers was arrested on two outstanding warrants, one for child neglect and the second for failure to appear on a previous traffic offense.
  • On March 7, Target employees nabbed a 12-year-old male for stealing two packs of ear-buds at $20 (He tried to flush the second pair). Mom called and will hopefully dispense family justice.
  • Target employees caught a woman trying to exit the store after stealing some stuff. (When I’m not sure what they stole, I call it “stuff.”) Rose: She cried and said she was sorry. They gave her a hug and she was a good person the rest of her life. NO! She was arrested because that’s what happens when you steal stuff. Wait! I found the stuff: cross-body purse $23, panties $13, bra $13, lotion $4, nail polish $23.
  • Officers arrested a man in the Target parking lot after a suspicious-person call was received by 9-1-1. The man said he was in the parking lot about 20 minutes waiting on a friend to call and give him directions to his home on Chamblee-Tucker Road. The officer looked inside the car from where he stood and saw a brown bottle labeled “drugs” containing a green leafy substance, consistent with that of marijuana. The officer immediately interpreted the bottle labeled “drugs” and the green leafy substance as a “clue” and proceeded accordingly. He asked the man if any illegal drugs were in the car. The man said “no” and then told the officer there were three hypodermic needles in the console, because he injects methamphetamine into his arm with the needles. He told the officer he uses marijuana and “will never quit!” He was charged with possessing just over 4 grams of marijuana.
