  • 500 block of Calavaras Drive, 30350, 10/20 (6:30 a.m. to 5:42 p.m.): Someone forced entry into the basement door of the home or a window since pry marks were found. It appears at least two TV’s were taken. The victim said that two males had come to the home earlier to ask about cutting grass although neither man appeared dressed to do so. Those two men were described as black males, early 20’s, one wearing a black and yellow jacket.
  • The victim said he returned home after four days to find that his residence was entered and he is missing a PS4, two guitars, and external hard drive and an electric shaver.
  • 6060 Roswell Road, 30328, 10/21: The manager of the Dunkin Donuts said around 11:30 p.m., a man came into the closed store, with a key, and stole $300 from the register. To do so, not just only having a key to get in, the bad guy had to know the code to get into the register. Video captured the burglary. The manager confirmed that the front door key was missing. The suspect’s physical description matched that of a recently fired employee, fired for stealing from the register.

  • 5570 Roswell Road, 30342, 10/17: Target Store employees reported that a male came into the store wearing a black Polo shirt and khaki pants, which look like the normal dress for Target Mobile employees. He went to the customer service desk and asked for the keys to the Target Mobile locker. He signed the keys out under the name Darrin. He went to the stock room. Inside, he told other clerks in the room that he was at this store for the first time and asked where the Target Mobile locker was. They showed him and he opened the locker and took 26 phones that he placed in a small duffle bag that he had concealed under a sweatshirt. While doing so it was noted that he was on the phone, possibly being directed by the person on the other end. The man then returned the keys to the desk and left the store in a two-door Nissan Altima or Infinity, white in color. It appears the same suspect entered a Target Store at Atlantic Station and took a large number of phones as well.

The report wasn’t conclusive as to if or not it was returned but it is being investigated.
  • 5700 Roswell Road, 30342, 10/20: The gas station employee reported that a male came in and asked if he could pump gas and pay later. The employee agreed and turned the pump on. The man pumped $51 of gas and then drove off without paying.

Capt. Steve Rose with Sandy Springs police says: These reports of thefts from vehicle were just part of the thefts over the past week. In all but one or two, there were personal items in the cars including sensitive account numbers, personal ID, etc. The recent trend the past couple of weeks has been focusing on hotel parking lots. Even at home and especially if you park in community parking such as apartments and condos, or especially if you use parking decks, take it all out of the car. That is the only way to guarantee that your stuff won’t be stolen. We’ve stepped up patrols, especially at night but we can only cover so much area between calls. Please do yourself and us a big favor and stash your stuff. Take it out if at all possible. Never leave anything in view if you have to leave it in the car. It doesn’t matter if you’re going to be out of the car for two minutes or two hours. Take it all out.

Assault

  • 125 Northwood Drive, 30342, 10/18: A 31-year-old man reported that he was at a party and got into an argument with another man who broke a bottle and cut the lip of the victim. Alcohol was involved.

Other Things

  • Cops responded to Jefferson Drive (30350) regarding a neighbor dispute. They were told by the upstairs complainant that the downstairs neighbor came up and complained that they were stomping on the floor. He was banging on the door, then walked down to the parking lot and kicked the upstairs neighbor’s car and threatened to fight him. The upstairs neighbor, who was on the balcony and saw the car being kicked, yelled at the man who yelled back, etc. etc. etc. A witness saw him kick the car and eventually he was arrested.
  • Responding to a suspicious-person call, around 7:30 p.m. at Huntcliff Village Court (30350), the officer found a male in his car parked near the leasing office. The man was semi-conscious and had numerous needle tracks on his arm. Uncapped needles were on the console. The officer called an ambulance for the man who admitted he had just injected heroin into his arm. He was taken to the hospital. Some heroin, bagged up, was found in the car.
  • A man called the cops to say his friend took his keys and won’t give them back.
  • A woman called and said that his son was watching an R-rated movie and as such, the boy’s uncle -- also in the room -- disconnected the TV. The boy threw a rubber ball at the uncle. It missed, but the uncle’s return throw did not. The officer said it left a minimal mark on the boy’s neck. The uncle was charged with assaulting the boy.

Fraud

  • A 27-year-old man reported someone accessed his debit card information and purchased several items from the Shell Station in the 5800 block of Roswell Road. The items totaled just under $100.
  • A woman reported that she has been nagged by a man from South Carolina named Jim Ziegler regarding helping due to the recent flooding. She believes that he saw her Facebook page seeing apparently that she was from South Carolina. She believes the call is scam based.

Arrests

  • Jerry was caught smoking dope in his car on Brentwood Way on the 17th around 3 a.m. He also had a probation violation warrant on him from Sandy Springs. He was arrested.
  • A patrol officer found a man sleeping in his car that was running and partially parked in the Waffle House parking lot on Northside Drive around 4 a.m. on the 17th. The man thought he was at the Ritz Carlton in Buckhead. He was arrested.
  • Cops responded to the parking deck at 8010 Roswell Road on 10/17 around 8:30 a.m. after a witness called on suspicious activity. Two guys told cops that they were driving their rental car when for no reason, the car’s alarm went off. They pulled over to try and figure it out. The officers found that both men had suspended driver’s licenses and one had a warrant on him for FTA on a previous charge of driving with a suspended license.
  • A Marta bus driver called the cops after smelling what he determined was marijuana being smoked on the bus. The bus was detained while SSPD officers waited for Marta PD to arrive. During that time, the person in question walked off the bus, stashed two baggies of marijuana behind the bus and then re-entered — all of this of course being witnessed by the officer. (Assume here that the suspect was indeed stoned.) He was arrested.
  • Employees called the cops to the Publix store on Hammond Drive on the 20th to report that a woman concealed several health-related items in her purse and attempted to leave. They were throat and cough meds and eye makeup remover. She said she was sorry and would pay for the items — which she should have done in the first place to keep this shoplifting charge off her record.
