Robbery
- A 40-year old cabbie said he picked up a young black male, around 18-20 years old, at the CVS on Dalrymple and Roswell roads. He took him to the area of 5675 Roswell Road. When they arrived, the man said he didn’t have the $25 fare but would call a friend to come out and pay. They waited for several minutes with no result so the cabbie told the man he needed the money so he could get back out there. The man pulled a gun and hit the cabbie twice on the head/face area, threatened to kill him and then fled around the side of one of the apartment buildings. The suspect, who assaulted the cabbie from the back seat, apparently dropped a 9 mm semi-auto magazine on the floorboard of the car. That was recovered and processed for prints. The victim was taken to the hospital with lacerations on his head (Editors note: Sandy Springs police spokesperson Sgt. Forrest Bohannon said the case is active and under investigation).
- 300 block of Spring Creek Lane, 30350, 1/14: Officers were called to an apartment around 10:30 a.m. Inside they spoke with four people inside the apartment who said they were just robbed. The officers noted a heavy smell of marijuana inside the apartment. According to the four, they received a knock on the door and looked through the peephole seeing two men dressed as maintenance workers. They spoke to the two men who said they were responding to a water leak complaint. They were let in and briefly looked into a closet as if looking for the leak. One of the men then pulled a gun and the pair then demanded to know where the money, safe and marijuana was located. The two suspects contained the residents and ransacked the apartment. Taken was $220 cash, a Samsung phone with cracked screen, iPhone 6 with a cracked screen, iPad, a debit card, some marijuana that was contained in a mason jar as well as the part known as shake, which contains dust and stems. Suspect one is a black male, early 30’s, dark complexion, 6 feet and 180 lbs., grey fitted skull cap, greywork shirt with front pockets with the logo GT and “Georgia Service Techs LLC on it. He had tattoo on him including one on his right arm of a flagpole in the shape of a penis with a flag with the letters “AM” on it. Suspect two was a black male, early 30’s, medium complexion, 5’-11” and 180, wearing a skull cap and the same shirt as suspect one.

- 5000 block of Lake Island Drive, 30342, 1/9: The complainant said the home has been vacant for some time. His real estate agent called and said it appeared someone entered the home and took grates from the stove (Wolff Stove Top) .Nothing else was missing. Forced entry was found on a back bedroom window.
- 1000 block Marsh Trail Circle, 30350, 1/9 (9:15 a.m. to 6:20 p.m.): The resident said when he returned home, he found his front door ajar (no forced entry). He saw slight debris directly below his attic indicating someone climbed it. He noted to the officer that two men came to his home two weeks ago, saying they were looking for a water leak and specifically asked to go into the resident’s attic. Since he had not called, he denied the request. They told him they would return later. He is missing an Apple laptop, iPod, speaker, DVD player and $1,500 cash that was kept in a kitchen drawer.
- 700 Dalrymple Road, 30328, 1/11: Two computers were stolen from an office after someone forced entry through the front door overnight.
- 400 block of Summer Drive, 30350, 1/11 (8:45 a.m. to noon): The resident said his front door to his apartment was forced open. He also noted that the peephole was missing. Several items were taken. Capt. Steve Rose says: We’ve had a few of them where the perp either took the peephole or attempted to. We can’t find any real reason for it other than they’re using it as a souvenir to show other burglars or wear it around their neck, who knows? A second burglary was located on this date and that peephole too was taken.
- Mt. Paran Road, 30342, 1/11: The complainant said someone entered the under-construction home and took a Jenn Air Warmer Oven sometime between the 8th and 11th.
- 8897 Roswell Road, 30350, 1/13 (Samad Grill): The owner said he arrived at the restaurant and found the front door glass smashed, his registers ransacked and even taped money on the wall gone, as was the small amount of cash in the tip jar. He pulled up video and it revealed a fair-skinned male wearing a puffy dark colored coat with a hood and wearing jeans. The victim said this was the same man he had removed from the restaurant on the previous day. He could tell because the coat matched. The owner said when they had the man removed, he took photos of him with his phone.
- 1155 Mt. Vernon Hwy, 30328, 1/14: Someone threw a large rock through a window at the Sports Authority Store just after 1 a.m. A security guard found the damage and called police. He said he saw a Ford-150 pull up to the store. Three men, described as black males, exited the truck and smashed the window. Two of the three entered the store, one remained. The security guard drove up on the truck as the two men exited. They re-entered the truck and fled across the parking lot and the median on Mt. Vernon Highway westbound. The guard said he thinks that they got little, if anything. He was unable to get the tag. The store manager arrived and he reviewed the video with the officers. It showed the truck pulling up, window smashed, two suspects coming in and taking an armful of clothing, then exiting. A Wii game case was left behind. The manager said they do not sell the game. Inside the case was marijuana residue. It appears they were in the store from 1:25 a.m. to 1:27 am.
Thefts
- 1165 Perimeter Center West, 30328, 1/10: A 64-year-old woman said she was having lunch at the La Madeleine Restaurant. Later she discovered two credit cards missing from her purse. Rose: Okay now, I remember that for a while, last year or so, we had several thefts from this restaurant, centering on customers hanging their purse on the chair. The wallet was taken from the purse that was left open — which of course is the same problem at the grocery store when the victim is distracted and the second bad guy lifts the wallet. Someone was working this restaurant, spotting the purse, and either taking it or having a co-perp do the walk by and grab. Here is the crime-prevention message: ZIP IT.
- The 59-year-old victim said his car was missing after the following events: He was with his female friend whose name he knew only as “Chocolate.” He (victim) had a diabetic-related problem and at some point lost consciousness. When he regained it, “Chocolate,” his keys, and car were gone. He knows nothing about “Chocolate” other than her name, and that she lives on Glenwood Road in DeKalb County. Rose: Friends whom you know only by street names are not really friends. You should act accordingly.
- 500 Embassy Row, 30328, 1/13: A man said he left his phone on a desk and it was stolen. He said a woman took it. Sure enough, the school’s video shows that woman taking and concealing the phone. These are all students at Atlanta Intercontinental University.
- 290 Hildebrand Drive (Strands of Beauty Salon): The complainant said a customer ordered the crochet Senegalese twists hair style, at a cost of $250. Halfway through the process, the customer walked out having paid only $25 as a deposit.

Assault
- 6400 block of Roswell Road, 30328, 1/10: Around 3:45 a.m. cops responded to meet with a man who said he hired a “Su Taxi” to take him to his home on Northridge Road. He got into a dispute with the driver and refused to get out of the taxi until he took him to the right location. Once he did, the complainant said once the taxi stopped, he decided to video the driver with his cellphone causing the driver to knock the phone out of the man’s hand. The complainant was partially out of the taxi at which time the driver engaged the car and off he went, causing the complainant to fall. The complaint said he hurt his hip but declined medical response. He said the taxi driver was a Hispanic male who wore a cowboy hat with hair sticking out of it.
Other Things
- A woman reported that on Jan. 11, at around 4:30 p.m., at the intersection of Abernathy and Roswell, a man in a white Chevy Impala pulled up next to her and held out what she saw was a silver badge. He wanted her to role her window down but she did not and continued on. She said he was doing this to other cars, who were in traffic, as well.
- A property manager on Colquitt Road reported on Jan. 12 that the apartment tenants were advised to move cars so the tree-trimming company could complete a project. According to the complainant and a witness, a woman became angry and announced, “If I had a gun, I’d shoot everybody.” Rose: A few years back when someone did something like this we would say, “They’re just blowing off steam” or “They’re nuts,” or whatever. No more. You hear something like this now, report it.
- 517 Northridge Road, 30350, 1/12: Around 7:25 p.m. police received a call from a woman who said shot several rounds into her apartment. The officers arrived and spoke to several kids in the area who said they saw a man shooting a gun up in the air, then ran towards Colquitt Road. He was described as wearing a dark hoodie and dark clothing. Cops spoke to a woman who said she was in her apartment, working on her computer when she heard someone outside. She looked through her peephole and saw three men, one white male, two black, banging on the door across the hallway. She returned to her computer, then heard noises sounding like gunshots, then realized the bullets were coming into her apartment. She dove to the floor and had her son call 9-1-1. Although she was not hit, she said she was only inches away from one of the bullets entering her apartment. It appears an adjacent apartment was shot up because the rounds that entered the victim’s apartment came from a neighbor’s apartment. The area where the witnesses said they saw a man shooting, revealed some shell casings. The adjacent apartment appeared to have been shot at several times — at least 8 rounds through the window, finding at least one slug lodged in the refrigerator’s freezer area. Officers discovered that apartment empty. The shots fired into the victim’s apartment had passed through the neighboring apartment first. Detectives are investigating the incident.
Fraud
- 8331 Roswell Road, 30350, 1/9: Kroger loss prevention employees reported three suspects collectively purchased over $10,000 in MasterCard reloadable gift cards using a fraudulent credit card. The MasterCard was on the Bank of Ireland. They entered the store together and one by one, purchased the cards and completed the transactions at the service desk. The loss prevention staff managed to disable all but $2,350 in value. Suspect one appears to be a light-skinned black female, mid 20’s, black jacket and blue shirt. Suspect two is a black female, medium brown complexion, mid 20’s, dark clothing. Suspect three is a black female, dark skinned, mid 20’s, dark clothing.
- On the 12th, at the same Kroger, a 20-22 year old black male, came into the store and attempted to pay for a pre-pay MasterCard using a Visa credit card. They asked for the last four numbers on the card and what he gave her did not match. The man then realized the jig was up, grabbed the pre-paid card and fled, leaving the credit card behind. The card appeared to be altered with new, fraudulent informationadded to the magnetic strip. They were able to cancel the pre-paid card before it was used.
Arrests
- 5570 Roswell Road, 30342, 1/9 (Target): Cops were called to meet with security who detained a female who had taken several items and concealed them before passing the cash registers. Recovered were clothing, headphones, and a charger. She was arrested.
- 5600 Roswell Road, 30342, 1/12: Around 2 a.m., a patrol officer ran a tag on a BMW 528i and the GCIC return showed that car stolen out of Miami Shores Police in Florida. He stopped the car occupied by a man and woman. Long story short: the woman said she and the car’s owner were at a hotel in Miami. The male, owner of the car, fell asleep and for some reason she decided this would be a good time to visit folks in Georgia. Shortly thereafter, she picked up the male (suspect 2) and he too decided the road trip would be awesome. He said he never suspected the car was stolen because she had the keys to the car. They were both jailed on felony theft by receiving stolen property charges.
- 5580 Roswell Road, 30342, 1/12: Around 11 a.m., officers were called to the parking deck near the Lifetime Fitness on a person who was suspicious and possibly breaking into cars. They described the man as a black male, dark pants, wearing a dark hoodie. He had a flashlight and wore gloves. The officer arrived and located the man who was approaching the stairwell. The officer told him to stop, that he wanted to speak with him. The man ignored him and continued on. Again he was told to stop, again he ignored. The officer was able to get the man stopped and secured him while he investigated. The man, although it appears did not have time to break into the cars, was seen on video looking into several. The suspect was also wanted in Gwinnett County (don’t know what for) and had a small amount of drugs on him. He was charged with several misdemeanors, including loitering and prowling, simple assault and obstruction.
