Police: Driver Charged With DUI In Officer-Involved Accident

Tamika Shelia Woodson of Lithonia has been charged with DUI, driving too fast for conditions and failure to maintain lane in an accident that sent her and Sandy Springs officer Mike Stark to the hospital.

The driver of the vehicle that struck a Sandy Springs Police Department patrol vehicle has been charged with driving under the influence, the agency said Thursday afternoon.

Tamika Shelia Woodson, 39, of Lithonia has also been charged with driving too fast for conditions and failure to maintain lane in an accident that sent her and officer Mike Stark to North Fulton Hospital to be treated for injuries. 

Stark was in the right emergency lane while completing an accident call when his patrol vehicle was struck "from the back by another vehicle that had crossed over" into the emergency lane, Sandy Springs Police spokesperson Capt. Steve Rose said.

Woodson was charged by the Georgia State Patrol, which investigated the accident. 

"It is estimated the impact pushed the officer’s car in excess of 100 feet from a standstill position," Capt. Rose added.
