Police To Increase Traffic Enforcement During Holiday Weekend

The Sandy Springs Police Department is reminding motorists to use extra caution as they hit the road this Memorial Day weekend, as traffic is expected to thicken on state thoroughfares.

Traffic estimates from the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Crash Reporting Unit and the Georgia State Patrol call for 18 traffic deaths, 2,401 traffic crashes and 1,012 injuries during the 78-hour holiday period, which begins at 6 p.m. Friday, May 26 and ends at midnight on Memorial Day.
Sandy Springs officers will increase traffic enforcement throughout the holiday weekend and drivers are cautioned against drinking and driving.

The department will target impaired drivers, occupant protection violators and aggressive drivers. The department is hoping this enforcement will reduce the amount of fatal crashes and ultimately save lives.
