The man placed his hand over her mouth and face and demanded she hand over the keys to the car, which she did.
When she was released, she immediately ran back into the house to have her son call 911 and was followed into the house by one of the suspects. The man pointed a handgun at the woman, and told her to give him the keys to the vehicle. When she told the suspect she’d already given the keys to the other suspect, the man retreated back into the garage.
The man and the other suspect ran out of the garage get into a silver vehicle and drive away, according the report.
Meanwhile, the woman’s son, 14, who witnessed the armed robbery in action, was initially reported missing by his mother. The son told police he heard his mother scream and when he went to the garage to investigate what was happening, he was told by the two suspects to leave the house.
The boy ran to a neighbor’s home to report the incident. Police eventually reunited him with this mother.
Taken from the woman was her a purple Vera Bradley purse containing an Apple iPhone 4S, seven credit cars, keys, about $100 in cash and a white and green L.L. Bean tote bag which contained an Apple iPad 2.
The woman’s husband, who arrived onto the scene after the incident occurred, was able to utilize a Find My iPhone app on his phone to trace the location of his wife’s cell device. The phone was traced to a vehicle traveling eastbound on Interstate 285 and eventually came to a stop at a home on Abberley Way in Stone Mountain.
Dispatchers alerted DeKalb County police about the phone’s location. DeKalb police were able to locate a vehicle matching the description of the one at the home in Sandy Springs.
One suspect — Kelly Rasheen — was detained by DeKalb police until Sandy Springs detectives were able to take over the investigation.
Anyone with information on the identity of the other suspect is asked to call Sandy Springs detective Jon Williams at (770) 551-3296 and reference case number 2014-014656.
