Prep Slam Comes To Holy Innocents' Episcopal School

The prestigious wrestling tournament will feature some of best teams in the nation.

Be sure to set aside the first two days of 2016 for one of the finest and most competitive high school wrestling competitions in the nation – the 8th Annual Prep Slam Wrestling Tournament, which will take place at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School in Sandy Springs.

Held in the Main and Duncan Gymnasiums on Friday, Jan. 1 and Saturday, Jan. 2, this remarkable event will feature 39 teams from 14 states, with many state champs and nationally-ranked wrestlers. For the first time, teams from Virginia (Norfolk Collegiate) and New England (Middlesex School of Concord, MA) will compete in the tournament.

The gates will open at noon Friday with matches starting at 1:00 p.m. On Saturday, the doors open at 8 a.m. with competition beginning at 9 a.m. Since it is a GHSA sanctioned event, admission will be charged.

“Each year, we’re excited to host this event,” HIES Athletic Director Ruth Donahoo said. “It’s grown into one of the premier tournaments in the country, and certainly the most important one in the Southeast. More importantly, though, it gives our wrestlers national level competition as they train for the State Traditional tournament.”

Some of the top Golden Bear wrestlers competing will include Turner Gill, Keegan Donahoo, Taylor Addington and John Gibson.
