The Sandy Springs City Council on Tuesday approved a request from the Atlanta Country Day School to modify a condition of zoning so it can grow its operations.
The school is located on 2.33 acres at 8725 Dunwoody Place.

The modifications will allow the school to expand from nine to 15 classrooms, increase its building from 5,100 square feet to about 8,406 square feet, increase the assembly areas of up to 1,000 square feet on each floor and to allow its student body to increase from 48 to 100 pupils.
The Council’s original use permit, granted in 2011, allowed Atlanta Country Day School to operate in its existing 5,100 square feet of space, and limited its student body to 48 pupils in nine classrooms.
According to its website, the school serves grades 7 through 12, has roughly 25 enrolled full-time students and has a 6:1 student-teacher ratio. It’s also accredited by the Georgia Accrediting Commission and the Southern Association of Colleges and School and operates on a four day a week schedule.
A request to rezone property to construct over a dozen townhomes didn’t fair well before the Sandy Springs City Council.
The Council voted to deny a request from Rockhaven Homes, LLC to rezone just over 2 acres at 45 Northwood Drive from R-1 (single family dwelling district) to TR (townhome residential) to accommodate 16 townhome units.
